A portrait of an artist

Our new Board member, Kathrin Schertenleib, has been known to be very talented in many fields. Studying Medicine in Pleven, Bulgaria at the moment, she used to be a Buddhist nun with the name of Ayya Patacara, ordained by Bhante Sujato.

While staying at Santi Forest Monastery in Australia, she made some very beautiful art. Amongst others the intricate snake-mozaic around the stupa:

And she spent nearly 2 years carving a large Buddha-statue in the big cave:

And finally, below is a video of Kathrin in Dhammapala Monastery in Switzerland folding an origami Buddha.

I met Kathrin at Santi during a rains retreat. She has amazing creativity and will make a great surgeon if she can survive the patriarchy. I was starting my masters in engineering on fracking part of which has been published (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/gwat.12853) . I really wanted to ordain like Kathryn but the patriarchy stopped me from this particular path.
Best wishes to the Tiloriens who are changing the dynamic for women for the better.
    With metta
